Welcome to the Gladeo League, Danny Shin! Danny Shin is an undergraduate Design Studies major at San Jose State University. An artist with an eye for detail, he strongly believes that an effective design can have a powerful impact among others. He hopes to apply this passion to big companies such Apple or Google through apps or graphic design in the future.

Meet Justin Styles - one of Gladeo League’s new writers and a member of the Reporter Team! A student at California State University, Northridge, Justin majors in Journalism and has a passion for writing and helping others. In his free time, he likes to write music, watch interviews and study popular culture. His interests include music, comedy, and songwriting.

Daniel Nguyen is one of our newest additions to the Reporter Team for Gladeo ! Daniel’s story began in Sugarland, Texas where he grew up reading and writing. He grew up as an avid Harry Potter fan and loved learning in school. Today, he is a Business student at Hofstra University Honors College on Long Island, New York.
Alejandra Padilla is a San Jose, CA native and is currently attending San Jose State University for a BA in Design. An avid tennis player since high school, Aly still keeps in shape by playing volleyball as well. While her other hobbies include painting and photography, she plans to focus on making more art projects that highlight issues in the US, such as women's rights and the environment. She aspires to use her creative eye to design either magazines or mobile apps in the future.

Meet Tyce Rose, our new resident League Audio Designer! Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, Tyce has always had an affinity for the arts, especially music. He started playing the trombone in 5th grade, and was a member of marching band, choir, jazz band, and concert ensemble throughout high school. He moved to California and graduated from Cogswell Polytechnical College last year with a degree in Digital Audio Technology.

The Gladeo League would like to welcome Alice Shen, a new member of our Reporter team! A recent Journalism graduate from Boston University, Alice is looking forward to pursuing a career in multimedia journalism with a concentration in business and technology. One unique aspect that Alice brings to the League is her experience working with various media outlets such as CNN Beijing Bureau, Bloomberg Businessweek (Chinese Version), Caijing Magazine, and Milford Daily News.

The Medical Experience through Service in Healthcare (MESH) group at the University of California - Los Angeles is a completely student-run group offering clinical assistance and public health programs to the Los Angeles area. Their target demographics are low socioeconomic status communities. MESH aims to offer different medical services to low socioeconomic status communities through blood pressure and body mass index (BMI).

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! This month, Gladeo will be featuring three exemplary non-profits that have made a positive impact by back to the community. To begin, we are featuring an organization that has fostered generations of youth with work-readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills- Junior Achievement.
Gladeo at Richmond's Getting Ready For College Conference 2016!
On October 29th, Gladeo Co-Founder Michelle Cho conducted a workshop at the annual Getting Ready For College Conference hosted jointly by the Ed Fund, City of Richmond, and the West Contra Costa Unified School District. The event took place at the Richmond Memorial Auditorium and Convention Center, and provided students and their parents with workshops on post-secondary life and opportunities to start on the financial aid process.

Born and raised on the Pine Ridge Indian Reserve in South Dakota, Billy Mills did not have the easiest childhood. By the age of 12, he had no parents and was always surrounded by poverty. Despite all of the negativity surrounding him, Billy distracted himself with something that soon turned into a passion- running.

Charlene Teters possesses many masks. When she is not busy being a mother of two, she is teaching, creating art, or participating in multiple campaigns. Interestingly enough, she found a way to mesh all three activities together. From Spokane, WA, a descendant of the Spokane Tribe, Teters uses her voice and her art to protest mediums that appropriate her culture.

Tom B.K. Goldtooth, born Bruce Kendall Goldtooth, is an activist of many facets for the Native American population. Apart from being one of the most identifiable Native American rights leaders, Tom Goldtooth also focuses on climate and environmental as well as economic justice.

Oklahoma Native Joy Harjo is an influential poet, musician, and author. After she graduated from the Iowa Writer’s Workshop from the University of Iowa, she wrote seven books of poetry, several screenplays, played saxophone, and is a Professor of English and American Indian Studies at The University of Illinois.

According to the Center for Disease Control, students who engage in bullying behavior are at increased risk for academic problems, substance use, and violent behavior later in adolescence and adulthood. George Takei, Japanese-American actor, director, and activist has captivated the public for decades. Growing up in a Japanese internment camp after his home was uprooted in World War II, he struggled through racial prejudice in his daily life. In 1966, he became popular for his role as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu on the television show, Star Trek. In 2005, he publicly declared himself as gay and has been admired for his work as an LGBT rights activist ever since.

But what some may not know is that Famous Amos isn't just a cookie brand- but it is the delectable outlet for Mr. Wallace "Wally" Amos, a talent manager and Air Force veteran. Amos' cookies started from humble beginning from his aunty's New York kitchen to a world renowned cookie brand stocked on shelves worldwide.
TULSA, OKLAHOMA: THE BLACK WALL STREET
In the early 1900's, there was a place referred to as the Black Wall Street. It was Black America's most prosperous community, located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The all-black community was full of businesses, churches, schools, and so much more. The dollar circulated around 36-100 times each year before it left the community. Many who resided in Tulsa were attorneys and doctors with PhD. Tulsa represented grit, devotion, and perseverance. Learn about the history of this great city.
