Accessibility Features

Userway Accessibility Widget (on Gladeo Career Navigation Platforms)

At Gladeo, we are committed to continually improving the accessibility of our career navigation platforms. While we work toward long-term enhancements, we’ve integrated the UserWay Accessibility Widget to help reduce access barriers in the meantime.

Our platforms are designed to work with assistive technologies such as screen readers and keyboard navigation. The UserWay widget—accessible via the pink circle icon in the bottom right corner—provides a range of tools to support diverse user needs, including:

✔ Adjustable text size for better readability
✔ Contrast settings for users with visual impairments
✔ Enhanced keyboard navigation
✔ Improved screen reader compatibility
✔ Closed captioning on all videos
✔ Option to pause animations to reduce motion sensitivity
✔ Highlighted links for easier visibility

Users can customize their experience using these tools to better suit their needs.

Alternative Text

Most images on this site are accompanied by brief alt text that identifies the image or its function. If you are using a browser, alt text is visible to non-screen reader users only if the browser’s automatic image loading feature is turned off. Long descriptions are provided for images where appropriate. If you find an image that is missing alt text, please let us know at info@gladeo.org.

Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks are written so that they make sense when read out of context by a screen reader.

Captioning

All videos on the Gladeo platform include closed captions. If you encounter a video that is missing captions, please let us know at info@gladeo.org.

Text Resize and Reflow

Users can resize text up to 200% without losing content or functionality. The platform is fully responsive and reflows across devices, ensuring usability on mobile, tablet, and desktop screens.

Keyboard Navigation

Most functionality on the site can be accessed via keyboard. We are currently redesigning the Site Menu to ensure full keyboard accessibility, as some hover features still require mouse input.

Additional Technologies

The option to resize text is available in most browsers with a keyboard shortcut:

  • Control (or Command on the Mac) and + (plus) to zoom in

  • Control (or Command on the Mac) and – (minus) to zoom out

  • Control (or Command on the Mac) and 0 (zero) to reset the zoom level to the default (100%).

You can also find these options in the browser’s menus, usually under View.

Should you need to use a more feature-rich screen reader to access our site, a number of free options are available:

  • VoiceOver is built-in on Mac computers and iOS devices such as the iPhone and iPad

  • Narrator is built-in on Windows computers and tablets, and NVDA is available as a free download as well

  • ChromeVox is available on Chromebooks

  • TalkBack is built-in on Android phones and tablets, and a version of it is also available on Amazon’s Fire tablets (called VoiceView)

Ongoing Improvements

Accessibility is a continuous priority. While we meet many WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AA standards, we are actively addressing the following areas:

  • Adding audio descriptions or alternative formats for videos with important visual content

  • Improving keyboard accessibility in menus and dropdowns

  • Updating contrast and target size for small buttons and interactive elements

User-Informed Product and Accessibility Design

Gladeo actively incorporates user feedback through focus groups, user testing, live feedback sessions, and user surveys with both students and educators. We collaborate with a broad network of partners across middle schools, high schools, community colleges, and adult education programs—including teachers, CTE instructors, special education teachers, transition specialists, counselors, and pathway coordinators. This includes our Bay Area Community of Practice, which brings together over forty dedicated practitioners from regional high schools and community colleges who provide ongoing input as they use the platform with students.

We also administer pre- and post-course surveys with both students and educators for our Gladeo FutureReady Course to evaluate impact and gather feedback that informs ongoing improvements.

We welcome your feedback. If you encounter a barrier or have suggestions for improving your experience, please contact us at info@gladeo.org.
